Accused child killer free on bond

The woman accused of killing four year old Darnell Gray in Jefferson City last year is free on bond. Sheriff John Wheeler confirms Quatavia Givens left the Cole County jail just after 11 oh clock this/Wednesday morning. Givens is charged with first degree child abuse or neglect resulting in death. Givens was baby sitting Gray when he went missing. After six days of searching, Gray’s body was found on October 30th. At that time Givens said she may have hit the little boy “the wrong way”. An autopsy revealed Darnell died from blunt force trauma. Givens was originally held on 100-thousand dollars bond. Last week, Cole County judge John Beetem reduced Givens bond to 5-thousand dollars, ordered her to wear a GPS monitor at all ties, and set forth a long list of conditions Givens will have to meet. In his bond reduction order Beetem sited the fact that Givens is a low flight risk, and that a trial in the case is likely quite some time away. Givens is due back in court on October 15th.
