Boone County hospitals return to yellow zone, as does Missouri and several counties

An increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations causes Boone County hospitals to move back up to yellow status.  Hospitals in the area had been operating at green status since February.

Yellow status means hospitals could delay patient transfers and non-emergency procedures.

The Columbia/Boone County Health Department reported 11 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.  There are 58 active cases in the county and 30 patients are in the hospital.

Meanwhile, the latest State Profile Report from the White House lists Missouri in the yellow or moderate transmission level. There’s been a drop in cases and deaths in the last week, but the positivity rate is up slightly.  Most mid-Missouri counties, including Boone and Cole County, are listed in the yellow zone as well.

In Missouri, just over 42% of people have started the vaccination process, while just over 35% are fully vaccinated.
