California city leaders pass two ordinances addressing issues within police department

The City of California Board of Aldermen approves two ordinances Monday night concerning the recent firing of two probationary officers.

KRCG reports one of the ordinances authorizes a contract with a consulting firm to review the department.  The city says the firm has expertise in law enforcement management.

The second ordinance involves the city retaining special counsel to assist the city attorney with the investigation into the police department.

Although city officials haven’t elaborated on what triggered the firings, KRCG reports the evaluation stems from allegations and concerns regarding some aspects of the operation and administrative practices of the department.
