The Camden County Prosecuting Attorney has filed a motion for a special prosecutor to handle two possible improprieties within county government.
The first situation dates back to mid-December and is known locally as “Gravel Gate”. The sheriff’s department and county prosecutor were contacted December 11 about the county’s road and bridge crew laying over a mile of gravel on private property. The Missouri State Highway Patrol announced last week that it was officially handling that investigation.
It was also last week when a confrontation occurred at the Camden County Commissioner’s Office between a new commissioner and the maintenance crew. The county prosecutor is housed in the same building and since staff members witnessed the confrontation, the case has been turned over to a special prosecutor so there’s no conflict of interest.
The prosecutor’s office hasn’t elaborated but says it appears both events center on the Camden County Commission and appear to be part of an evolving situation.
Anyone with information about either event is asked to contact the appropriate law enforcement agency.
