A move to change the state constitution to allow casinos near the Lake of the Ozarks advances in the House.
Currently, Missouri casinos are only allowed along the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. But under Republican Rep. Rocky Miller’s bill, the law would be expanded to include a stretch of the Osage River stretching from roughly the Bagnell Dam to Jefferson City.
The bill passed the House Special Committee on Government Oversight Thursday along party lines. If it continues to advance, it will eventually go to a statewide vote.
A similar ballot initiative to add the White River near Branson was rejected by voters in 2004.
