Children in Jefferson City and Columbia will have access to free lunches this summer

Free lunches will be available to all children in Jefferson City and Columbia this summer.  In Jefferson City, the United Way of Central Missouri will provide a sack lunch to any child under 18, Monday-Friday, from July 5 to August 20.  Amber Brondel with the United Way, says they ran a similar program for three weeks in August last summer.

“Just in those three weeks alone, there were over 1300 lunches that were provided through the program.  So you can imagine the number of kiddos that we expect to receive free lunches July 5 through August 20 will be significantly higher.”

She estimates they’ll hand out 80 lunches a day at one of five locations.

The locations are the intersection of Elm and Linn Streets, the Apache Manor Mobile Home Park or the Samaritan Center Parking Lot on East McCarty, which will hand out lunches from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.  There will also be lunches available from 12:00 p.m. to 12:20 p.m. at the corner of Edmonds and Elizabeth Streets and from 12:20 p.m. to 12:40 p.m. at the Buena Vista Playground.

In Columbia, the Lunch in the Park program will run from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Douglass Park main shelter on North Providence from June 14 to August 13.  Those lunches are available to anyone under 18.  There will be no lunch available on July 5.
