Columbia man accused of accidental homicide dies in prison

One of the two men charged with a Columbia homicide last Fall has died in prison.

Michael Anderson III, 28, of Columbia, was being held in the South Central Correctional Center in Licking on an unrelated charge.  He died at the facility Thursday while being treated for an unidentified illness.  An autopsy is scheduled. 

Anderson and Aaron Harris, 27, of Columbia were both charged in the death of E’quan Spain, 19, on the morning of September 14th.  The trio was allegedly in a car together, attempting to exchange gunfire with another car, when Anderson accidentally shot Spain who died from his injuries.  

Harris is still facing charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.  His next court appearance is later this month.
