A Columbia patrol car is involved in a three-vehicle collision on the city’s south side.

According to police, the officer was responding to an emergency accident around 1:30 Thursday afternoon, when the accident happened near the Nifong-Providence intersection.  Witnesses reported the officer slowed down near the intersection to check for clearance when the cruiser was struck by a SUV.  Debris from the crash struck a third vehicle.

Both the officer and SUV driver were taken to local medical centers for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.  The other driver wasn’t injured.

The incident is under review, as is standard procedure.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Columbia PD.
