Fort Leonard Wood is one step closer to getting a new hospital.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a construction contract for the project last week.
The 235,000-square foot hospital will replace the existing structure which was first built in 1965.
The new facility will house a clinic, central utility plant, back-up generators, ambulance garage, helipad, and supporting facilities.
The project is estimated to cost almost $300-million and take about four years to complete.
Congress passed funding for the project last year.
