A Moniteau County couple was arrested for drugs after claiming to be "deer watching."

Jessica Iven, 33, and Byron Smith II, 34, both of California, are each facing one count of meth possession.

Officers got a suspicious vehicle call Tuesday from a corn field located north of California. While en route, deputies learned the car had tried to leave, but became stuck in the mud.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with Iven and Smith, who claimed they had driven to the field to watch deer. However, a search of their car turned up meth and paraphernalia. Additionally, the couple was found to currently be on probation and parole.
