Former Columbia man gets 12 years for Kansas City murder

Terrance Jones

A former Columbia man is headed to prison for a murder he committed in Kansas City five years ago.

Terrance Jones, 36, pleaded down to one count of voluntary manslaughter on Wednesday.  He was sentenced to 12 years in prison.  Jones had originally been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and unlawful use of a weapon.

Jones was arrested in February at his apartment in Columbia for murdering 30-year-old Brandon Johnson in 2016.

Police were tipped off to Jones after an inmate at the Jefferson City Correctional Center told them Jones had confessed to murdering Johnson because Johnson made derogatory comments about his brother.
