The investigation into what led a Fulton man to shoot a suspected home intruder continues.
It was early Saturday morning when Thomas Payne, 23, of Fulton, was shot when entering a home on Jefferson Street.
Fulton Police Chief Steve Myers explains what detectives have pieced together.
"From our investigation thus far, we have determined that possibly he entered the wrong house, thinking it was where he lived and the occupant of that house unfortunately shot him."
Payne was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Myers says the shooter is cooperating with authorities. He says it's unclear whether any charges will be filed at this point.
Myers says it's believed Payne may have been drinking before the incident, which might explain why he entered the wrong house.
