Hawley defends himself in Cape Girardeau newspaper

Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley uses a Cape Girardeau newspaper to defend his actions following last week’s deadly Capitol riot.

In a guest column in the Southeast Missourian, Hawley stated his reason for objecting to the certification of the electoral votes was keeping with the traditions of Congress.  He stated it’s something Democrats have done in past elections.

He also pointed his finger at the media and many members of the Washington establishment for saying his actions incited violence, calling those allegations “corrosive and dangerous”.

Hawley publically criticized those involved in the riot, but said he was fulfilling his duty to his constituents by speaking up.

Hawley has continued to face a backlash this week, from both Missouri House Democrats who called on him to resign and from major financial contributors who have either called for refunds or suspended donations.
