HUD Secretary Carson says his agency can help with affordable housing crisis in JC

The Secretary of Housing and Urban Developoment says HUD will not stand in the way of increasing the amount of affordable housing in Jefferson City in the wake of last April’s tornado. Dr. Ben Carson says his agency is working to change its image.

He says the old HUD had an image of coming into a situation "with a basket-load of cash, building these monstrocities of public housing, that were the breeding grounds for poverty and crime. Who would want one of these places in their back yard? Now, we are much more community centered, with all kinds of mixed forms of housing, with programs local housing authorities can access. The rebuilding of Jefferson City's affordabe housing will come from Jefferson City."

Carson was in Jefferson City speaking at the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast where he spoke about re-building people, as well as buildings.
