Is University of MO System violating the Missouri Constitution?

MU School of Law professor Royce Barondes

A trial into whether the University of Missouri system is violating the Missouri Constitution is underway in Columbia.

Under university policy, firearms are not allowed on university property.

MU law professor Royce Barondes has been fighting the policy since 2015.  Now he and the state are suing the university system on the grounds that their firearms policy violates an individual's right to bear arms.

The trial, which began yesterday, is expected to wrap up some time today.

The university argues it can enact the policy because it's an educational institution but the state counters that argument only applies to K-12 schools.
