A Jefferson City man is facing charges for a fatal shooting last week in Cole County.

Austin Corrigan, 21, was charged Friday with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and armed criminal action.

Deputies were called to a home in the 4500 block of Route E near Brazito Friday after learning that Clifton Withers, 63, and his wife had been shot. The woman told dispatch that Corrigan was responsible.

Upon arrival, Withers was pronounced dead at the scene, while his wife was taken to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to her leg. She's since been treated and released.

Officers later located Corrigan driving away from the scene and attempted to stop him, but he refused to yield. A short police chase ensued, but it ended after Corrigan ultimately crashed in Holts Summit.
