Jefferson City Public Schools decide to not classify teachers as essential workers.
The Jefferson City News Tribune reports the district had considered the option as a way to address a teacher shortage, giving teachers who have had close contact with a COVID-19 patient the option of returning to work after a seven-day quarantine period. The current CDC recommendation is for 10 days of isolation.
But the Tribune reports the district received 72 pages of feedback from the district, the majority indicating they didn’t feel comfortable with the plan.
It was just last week when the district announced it was transitioning students at two local middle schools to distance learning, starting today, because of staff shortages.
