JC teen sentenced for his part in armed robbery

Cortez Burton

One of four men, accused of an armed robbery in Jefferson City, is sentenced to shock time.

Cortez Burton, 19, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of robbery and was sentenced to 120 days of shock incarceration.

The robbery happened December 2018 on the city’s east side.  The victim was walking near East Elm and Eastland Drive when Burton and his friends pulled up alongside them in their car.  One of Burton’s friends, Latrell Batts, allegedly exited the car and robbed the victim at gunpoint.

Batts and the other two defendants have court hearings next month.
