A Jefferson City woman is now facing more serious charges in the death of a young boy.

A superceding indictment was filed Tuesday against Quatavia Givens, 26, charging her with second-degree murder, abuse of a child resulting in death, and endangering the welfare of a child.  Givens had previously been charged with neglect.

The charges stem from last October’s death of four-year-old Darnell Gray.  Givens was watching the boy for her boyfriend, when she reported him missing.  She later took police to his body, saying she may have hit him.  An autopsy revealed Gray died from blunt and sharp force trauma.

Givens had originally been held on a $100,000 cash-only bond, but it was lowered at the end of September to $5,000, which she posted about a week later.

Cole County judge Jon Beetem set Givens’ trial date last week.  Her trial is scheduled to last five days, beginning July 13, 2020.
