Jefferson City gets another $1.5 million for redevelopment of the Missouri State Penitentiary. The City Council voted unanimously Monday night to accept a federal grant to develop the site. It’s a matching grant, so the City will have to provide another$1.5 million. The money will go toward extending Chestnut Street, a storm water retention site, an additional street and creating pad sites for future development.
Construction is expected to start in 2022. It’s just one step toward what the City hopes to do at the MSP site. Different plans call for adding hotels, convention centers, museums and parks to the site.
