A Jefferson City man, found guilty of murder last fall, will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Jeffery Millens, 26, was sentenced on Wednesday to life in prison for second-degree murder. He was also sentenced to 10 years each on two separate counts related to the crime, but he’ll serve those consecutive to the life sentence.
The murder happened at a New Year’s Eve party in 2017 at a home on E. Capitol Avenue. Both Millens and the victim, Quonterio Davis, allegedly had a fight before the shooting over a woman.
The Jefferson City News Tribune reports Millens’ attorney filed a motion for a new trial after the sentencing, arguing one of the jurors may have been prejudiced against his client because they lived near one another. But the judge ruled to quash that motion.
During yesterday’s proceedings, Millens maintained his innocence.
