Jefferson City teen suffers significant injuries when he's hit by a car on Jefferson Street

A Jefferson City teen suffers significant injuries when he walks into the path of a car on the south end of town.

The Jefferson City Police Department reports right before the incident, the pedestrian, identified as 19-year-old Everett Pruitt, had a flat tire on Highway 54.  Police say the teen abandoned his car and was walking toward Big O Tires on Jefferson Street to borrow tools. 

Witnesses told police Pruitt was attempting to cross Jefferson Street when he walked into the path of an oncoming car.  According to police, Pruitt suffered multiple fractures and possible internal injuries.  He was transported to a Columbia hospital for treatment.

The driver of the car, a 76-year-old Jefferson City man, was not injured.
