Lake-area man arrested after police chase through Jefferson City

Cody Umfleet is charged with resisting arrest-creating a substantial risk of serious injury or death to another and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.

A Lake Ozark man is identified as the person arrested last night after leading law enforcement on a three-hour police chase through Jefferson City.

The JCPD reports 29-year-old Cody Umfleet is in the Cole County Jail awaiting charges.

The incident started around 3 p.m. on Wednesday when an officer stopped Umfleet for a traffic violation along Missouri Boulevard.  When the officer approached Umfleet’s car, he sped off toward Highway 50.  The pursuit of Umfleet continued on and off for the next three hours, ending twice when officers considered the chase a safety concern for other drivers.

Officers later found Umfleet’s abandoned car along Highway 179.  He was lapprehended, hiding in a nearby wooded area.  When Umfleet refused to surrender, a K-9 was deployed.  Umfleet was taken to a local hospital for injuries he sustained during the apprehension.
