Charges are reduced for a Dent County man, accused of attacking his elderly neighbor with an axe while high on drugs.
Wayne Head, 50, of Salem, was arrested in September for breaking into a neighbor’s home. When the 73-year-old victim heard breaking glass he confronted Head in the hallway in order to give his grandson time to escape.
Although Head allegedly hit the man multiple times with the axe, he and the boy were able to escape.
The victim was treated and released from a local hospital, while Head was later arrested at his mother’s house.
Head remains charged with a first-degree burglary and armed criminal action. But his first-degree assault charge has been reduced. He’d originally been charged with assault involving either serious injuries or a special victim. But the latter part of that charge was dropped Monday.
