Man struck by distracted driver in Columbia dies 6 months later

Randall Siddens

A Columbia woman may be facing stiffer charges after the man she hit with her car six months ago has died from his injuries.

The family of Randall Siddens, 34, says he passed away yesterday afternoon.  Siddens was one of two workers, picking up traffic cones following the Trizou Triathlon in May, who was hit by a distracted driver.

The woman who hit Siddens, Regine McCracken, 23, is currently charged with two counts of assault and one count of operating a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.  Investigators say McCracken was speeding and video chatting when she passed a police escort and struck Siddens from behind.

Siddens is survived by his wife and three young children.  A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help his wife with expenses.
