Mid Mo braces for winter storm

Winter storm watches and warnings are going up throughout mid Missouri as a cold approaching from the west will turn today’s heavy rain into ice and snow by tomorrow. Right now, it looks like rain will change to a short period of freezing rain over night tonight…and to snow by tomorrow afternoon. North and western portions of the state are looking at between 2 and six inches of snow. In mid Missouri…it looks like the snow will start later in the day tomorrow and accumulate about two inches. Cole County Public Works Director Larry Benz says today’s rainy weather complicates their ice and snow fighting capabilities.

Benz says the heavy rain throughout the day and into the evening won't allow his crews to pre-treat roads to keep them clear of ice and snow ahead of time.

Benz says stay off the roads as much as possible tomorrow and give his crews time and space to keep the roads in good shape. He says County public works will have 26 pieces of equipment out on the roads during the storm.
