Missouri S&T grad gives back in big way

A graduate of Missouri S&T at Rolla is giving back to his alma mater in a big way.

St. Louis businessman Fred Kummer and his wife June have donated more than 300-million dollars to a foundation that supports the university at Rolla. Kummer graduated from what was then The Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in 1955. He went on to found HBE Corporation, a design and build firm for health care.

The university will use the gift to establish a new school of innovation and entrepreneurship, develop new areas for research, and provide scholarships and fellowships for students.

Chancellor Mo Dehghani called the donation “transformative.”
