The Missouri House gives first round approval to a bill that would exempt federal stimulus payments from taxes.Â
The bill’s sponsor, Cody Smith, says while the House exempted the first round of federal payments from Missouri taxes last year, it did not extend that to future payments. Smith’s bill would stop the state from collecting income tax on both the past and future payments.Â
The bill needs one more vote in the House before heading to the Senate.
