New trial date set for man accused of fatal boating accident at the Lake of the Ozarks

Dylan T. McEwen

A new trial date is set for an Illinois man charged with a fatal boating accident at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Dylan McEwen, of Caseyville, Illinois, is charged with boating while intoxicated, resulting in the death of another.  Last week, a Camden County judge set a new trial date for McEwen to begin November 27.

The fatality happened in August of 2021 when McEwen and friends were boating on the lake’s main channel.  One of the men in the boat, 21-year-old Sean Jouglard, also of Illinois, was thrown from the boat when it hit a wake, entered the water, and drowned.

Jouglard’s family won a wrongful-death lawsuit last year, after claiming McEwen was under the influence of alcohol and didn’t know how to operate the boat properly.  The family received an undisclosed cash settlement.
