No mandatory facemasks in Cole County...yet

It may not be time for mandatory facemasks statewide yet, but Cole County Infectious Disease Coordinator Chezney Schulte says they are a good idea if you can’t keep social distancing.

Schulte says the CDC recommendations are for wearing facemasks when you are going to be in prolonged contact of less than six feet for more than 15-minutes at a time.

Schulte says the fact that the number of active Covid-19 cases has more than doubled in Cole County in the last week does not surprise anybody at the health department. She says the number of cases in the county is low…and most of the infections appear to have mild symptoms so far.

Schulte does remind mid Missourians free Covid-19 screenings will be held in Jefferson City Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week. It will run from7 am to 7 pm at the old Cole County Health Department site at 1616 Industrial Dirve. You will not need a doctor’s order and you need not be a resident of Cole County. You must however be from the state of Missouri.

And you also must register…at helath.mo.go/communitytest or you can call the Department of Health and Senior Services Covid 19 hot line available on its site.
