No seat belts and collisions with dump trucks lead to two mid-MO fatalities

Thomas Ciavarella

Two mid-Missouri drivers die in separate traffic accidents involving dump trucks.

The first happened yesterday morning around 10 a.m. just east of Iberia.  Thomas Ciavarella, 45, of Iberia, was driving on Highway-42 when he failed to yield to an oncoming truck, making a left turn into his path.  The pair collided, skidding off the road, with Ciavarella's car striking a mailbox.

The second fatality happened around 1:30 p.m. just south of Auxvasse.  Nicki Nation, 39, of Mexico, was driving on Highway-54 when she ran into the back of a truck.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports neither Ciavarella nor Nation were wearing seat belts.  Neither truck driver was injured.
