A police officer is shot and one person dead after an incident Saturday afternoon in Crawford County.

The Cuba Police Department reports an officer responded to a domestic-disturbance call at a home within the city limits.  When he arrived, the officer attempted to enter the house to confront a man who reportedly had a firearm.  That’s when the man fired shots at the officer, hitting him twice in the leg.

The officer returned fire, striking the man.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending an investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
