Osage County man headed to federal prison on drug/weapons charges

An Osage County man is headed to federal prison for gun and drug offenses.

Leif Haslag, 39, of Loose Creek, was sentenced to 15 years in prison without parole Thursday.  In July of 2021, he had pleaded guilty to one count of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Haslag was arrested in Jefferson City in September 2019. Authorities say they were conducting surveillance on a home when they saw Haslag leaving in a vehcile with license plates registered to another vehicle.

Officers pulled Haslag over and found 48 grams of methamphetamine and a loaded handgun in the car.

Haslag told investigators he had sold between four and six ounces of methamphetamine in the past 30 days. He also told them he had purchased the gun the day before and planned to sell it.

Haslag has several prior felony convictions that prevent him from legally owning a firearm.
