Outdoor entertainment center in Ashland gets initial approval, resident speak out at meeting

The Ashland Board of Aldermen grants a conditional use permit to a company hoping to build an outdoor entertainment center in Ashland.

The owner of Lakeside Development hopes to open an outdoor movie theater, stage, playground and lake near the airport on Log Providence Road, off of Highway 63.  That’s a narrow road that leads to dozens of houses.  Residents packed Tuesday night’s meeting, voicing concerns about noise, safety and increased traffic.

Ashland Mayor Richard Sullivan said the Board had to act on the conditional use permit to keep the project alive.  But the entertainment center can’t open until a traffic study has been done and fire codes are met.  Sullivan says if those requirements are not met, the City will not grant Lakeside Development an occupancy permit.
