A popular steamboat museum based in Kansas City could be sailing to the Capital City.
Sen. Mike Bernskoetter, R-Jefferson City, has filed a bill creating the Steamboat Legacy Fund that would impose a $1 increase to the $2 entry fee for Missouri's riverboat casinos. That money would then be used to bring the Arabia Steamboat Museum to Jefferson City.
ABC 17 News reports the museum doesn't plan on renewing its lease in Kansas City when it runs out in seven years.
Bernskoetter says the museum would be a great addition to Jefferson City's tourism.
If passed, officials hope to open the attraction in 2026, which coincides with Jefferson City's 200th anniversary of becoming the state capital.
