Smoking materials blamed for JC house fire

An overnight house fire near Jefferson City’s Memorial Park causes substantial damage.

Fire crews were called to the home on Bolton Drive last night around 9:30 by neighbors.  By the time crews arrived, significant smoke and flames were showing from the back of the home.  The occupant was able to escape but told firefighters five cats were trapped inside.  Crews were able to find all five, performed life-saving measures, and all survived.

A damage amount hasn’t been established, but investigators say carelessly-discarded smoking materials was the cause.
