A St. Louis man is facing charges in Montgomery County for shooting his girlfriend.
Kenneth McKnight, 23, was taken into custody Tuesday night at an exit ramp in Danville. He’s being held on charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
Deputies were called to the scene to follow up on a 911 call from the victim. She reported she and McKnight had been involved in a car accident and he’d just shot her.
The victim was taken to a Columbia hospital with critical injuries; however the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department reports that doctors said Wednesday that she’s listed in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
Deputies report that when they arrived at the scene, McKnight was in the rear of the vehicle and initially refused to come out, and the victim was outside the vehicle, crawling on the ground.
