St. Louis teen drowns while running from police

Deonte Jenkins

The body of a 15-year-old boy is recovered in a St. Louis creek two days after he runs from police.

The Missouri State Water Patrol reports the body of Deonte Jenkins of Florissant was pulled from Cold Water Creek yesterday afternoon.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Jenkins was allegedly one of four teens who stole a car Saturday in Hazelwood.  When officers attempted to stop the car in neighboring Florissant, all four teens bailed and took off on foot.  Witnesses say Jenkins was last seen jumping in the creek to escape.

Cold Water Creek runs into the Missouri River.  Although the creek is shallow in parts, it can reach up to 8-feet deep.  The Water Patrol reports Jenkins was not a swimmer.
