Stakeholders say bigger levees the answer to river bottom flooding

The consensus among Missouri river bottoms farmers and business owners is that something needs to be done now…to ensure long-term protection from flooding. About thirty interested people met with Corps of Engineers representatives this (Monday) morning in Callaway County to talk about the progress of the corps in fixing flood damaged levees in the area…and discuss future projects. Land owner and levee district chairman Jose Cruz says the river bottom community needs to look beyond fixing levees every time it floods.

Cruz says raising and reconfiguring levee placement could be a low cost alternative to constant flooding and rebuilding.
