Steelville man gets shock incarceration for his part in June murder

A Crawford County man pleads guilty and is sentenced for his role in the murder of his girlfriend’s ex.

Eric Ray, 51, of Steelville, pleaded guilty Monday to tampering with evidence and abandonment of a corpse.  He was sentenced to 120-days of shock incarceration.

Ray’s girlfriend, Beau Dyer, 20, also of Steelville, pleaded guilty in early November to second-degree murder and armed criminal action.  She received a combined 30-year sentence.

The victim, Albert Terry Barton, was murdered in June.  It was nearly a month before his body was discovered.

According to court records, Dyer and Barton were discussing their child on the day of the murder.  She told authorities they were driving together when Barton grabbed her by the hair and began striking her.  She says she pushed Barton off, ran into the woods, then shot him.

After the murder, Dyer contacted Ray who went to where Barton’s body was located and removed his phone.
