Three people killed in two-vehicle crash on Mexico's east end

Three people die in a head-on collision in Audrain County.

The Mexico Public Safety Department reports the accident happened Monday afternoon, around 1:30 p.m.

A car, driven by David Brenneke, 82, of Iowa was driving on the Highway 54 bypass on Mexico’s east end, when it crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming car head on.

Both Brenneke and his 85-year-old wife were pronounced dead at the scene.

The third victim, identified as 20-year-old Cole Grimes of Vandalia, was trapped in his car.  Police used extrication equipment to remove him, but he died before the ambulance arrived.
