Weekend flood waters lead to two deaths and several water rescues,
It was Saturday afternoon when Kristi Yates, 53, of Grovesprings, was attempting to cross a low-water crossing in Laclede County near Conway. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports flood waters disabled Yates' car. When she attempted to get out and swim to shore, she was swept away. Her body was recovered later that evening.
Meanwhile, an Eastern Missouri man is facing charges for leaving a female friend in a stolen truck after he drove it into flood waters Friday night. Investigators say Cole McCall, 21, of St. Charles, was speeding when he hit a levee and landed in a creek. McCall is accused of leaving his 20-year-old female passenger in the truck while he ran from the scene. The woman was unable to escape the pickup and drowned.
Two successful rescues occurred Friday night in the Lake area. The first was reported just north of Richland off Highway-A. The driver was able to escape to safety before rescuers arrived.
The second incident happened just southwest of Richland, off Highway-FF. Although that driver and his vehicle were swept away, the subject was able to make it to the bank safely.
