Two people were seriously injured when their car caught fire during a Moniteau County crash.

David Hashagen, 30, of Sturgeon, was driving on Highway 179 near Jamestown Wednesday morning when he lost control and began swerving back and forth across the road. The vehicle eventually struck a tree and slid down a ditch before it caught fire.

Both Hashagen and his one passenger, 20-year-old Melissa Hall of Columbia, were taken to University Medical Center. As of Thursday morning, both had been upgraded to fair condition.
