Two overnight shootings in Columbia

Columbia Police have four people of interest in custody for two separate overnight shootings.

The first was reported just after 1 a.m. this morning near Highland Drive.  Police heard gunshots and spotted a car leaving the area at a high rate of speed.  The driver and passenger eventually ditched the car on Providence Road and took off on foot.  Both were captured and taken in for questioning.

The second incident happened around 4:30 a.m. on Garth Avenue.  Police were called to the location to investigate a burglary in progress.  While en route, they got word that shots had been fired.  Police were later called to the hospital after a man, believed to be linked to the burglary, showed up with a gunshot wound.  There's no word on his condition.

Both cases are being investigated by the newly-formed Violent Crime Task Force introduced earlier this week.
